Dreamworks has got the go-ahead to build a theme park Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
Work on the $800 million project will start next year in Punta Maroma and will likely feature Dreamworks’ signature rides, theaters, restaurants, shopping and water attractions.
The first park of its kind in Latin America will be built on 7.5 hectares of land and will be instrumental in attracting more South American visitors to the Riviera Maya, according to Dario Flota Ocampo, director of the Trust for Tourism Promotion.
"It would be the first in Latin America and could be attractive to the South American public. It is a way for them to experience a park of this type without needing a visa to visit the United States," Flota Ocampo said.
"It’s the kind of attraction that increases the length of stay, like what has happened with Cirque du Soleil, which generates more economic benefit."
