Earthquake hits Italy

At least 27 people are reported to have been killed and many more injured in an earthquake in central Italy.

The quake, which had a magnitude 6.3, hit the city of L’Aquila in the Apennine Mountains in the early hours of this morning.

It was also felt in Rome, which is around 60 miles south-west of L’Aquila.
