EasyJet is planning to add more flights from Glasgow this winter, according to reports in the Scottish media.
Its country manager Ali Gayward told The Scotsman the airline was keen to ‘redress the balance’ with Edinburgh.
The airline has eight aircraft operating 41 routes from Edinburgh, whereas it has only four aircraft based in Glasgow, from where it flies to 19 destinations.
"Glasgow is a really important strategic base for us," Gayward said. "We are keen to see what we can do to redress the balance across Scotland. I would like us to do more flying from Glasgow. We expect to announce some new destinations this winter."
She told the newspaper only limited expansion was initially possible because of the lack of available new aircraft, but said there would be opportunity for further expansion in two years.
Ryanair has announced that it will slash its Glasgow routes from 23 to just three this winter, a decision which it blamed on the Scottish Government’s failure to fulfil its pledge to halve air passenger duty (APD).
It is moving the aircraft currently based at Glasgow to Edinburgh.
