Ecotravel company focuses on solutions for carbon emmissions
Washington DC-based Manaca EcoTravel has launched a carbon offset programme, offering a donation to neutralize emissions caused by the flights involved in any of its arranged trips.
According to a statement by Manaca, Tourism, including transport emissions, accounts for roughly 1.5 billion tons CO2 emissions, accounting for roughly 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) produced by industrial countries, which are the main culprit for global warming. The most significant contributor to climate change in the tourism industry is emissions resulting from air travel.
The company said that an increasing number of consumers are looking for a travel service provider who is reversing this trend. Manaca says that it provides a superior travel product while fulfilling its mission of low-impact, natural travel.
“As a travel company with the mission to protect and conserve the environment through the practice of responsible travel, Manaca could not stay indifferent to the dire effects of air and land travel on the environment,” said Andres Kristinus, CEO of Manaca EcoTravel. “We have taken concrete measures, so consumers can simply enjoy their travel on this beautiful planet.”
Once the quantity of emissions that are released into the air as travellers are on the move is determined, the allocated payment is used to purchase and permanently retire so-called ’emission reductions’ that are supplied by a project that employs clean technology to generate or consume energy. The emissions reductions are sourced by CO2e.com.
