eGuide to Tenerife sustainable tourism unveiled
Tenerife Tourism Corporation and greentraveller.co.uk have launched an online guide to Sustainable Tourism in Tenerife.
The Greentraveller Guide to Green Holidays in Tenerife provides practical advice, video, interviews, and in-depth information on how travellers can make the most of the island in a way that has a low impact on the environment and a positive impact on biodiversity conservation and on the local economy.
Included in this ground-breaking new online guide are over 100 recommendations for where to stay, eat and what to do on the island, from the capital Santa Cruz to the mountainous Teide National Park and the lush Orotava Valley in the north.
Working in collaboration with Tenerife Tourism Corporation (webtenerifeuk.co.uk/tenerife-natural), greentraveller’s team of travel writers has picked out some of the best green places to stay, from locally run hotels to self-catering villas and apartments and innovative places to find traditional Canarian food and drink – including local restaurants, bustling markets and world-class wineries. It also features a range of activities, including visiting salt-water pools, guided hikes, canoeing, scuba diving, whale-watching and other family holidays.
Richard Hammond, Chief Executive and Founder of greentraveller.co.uk, says: “Tenerife may not be the first place you may think of as a sustainable destination, but if you know where to look there are some wonderful green gems on the island. We’ve produced what is really a guide to the ‘Alternative Tenerife’ – showcasing the spectacular diversity of flora and fauna and illustrating how easy it is to find areas of great natural beauty far from the crowded resorts."
"By selecting only the best eco-friendly and locally run places on the island, we’ve already done the hard work for holidaymakers, who can choose from a wonderful range of quality places to stay, eat and visit that really make a difference to the island economy.”
“This guide to Tenerife is the latest of our online sustainable destination guides that reflect our focus on green and gorgeous destinations, and we hope that they will be a useful port of call for holidaymakers looking for that special local touch while on holiday in Europe."
Carlos Alonso, Tenerife’s tourism minister, says: “We’re delighted to have worked with greentraveller.co.uk to launch this groundbreaking guide to sustainable tourism in Tenerife. It is a real acknowledgement of our efforts over the past 20 years to preserve and maintain the wonderful diversity of flora and fauna as well as our gastronomy and wine. We believe our island is a very special place and we are committed to developing sustainable tourism for future generations to enjoy what we have here."
