Egypt set for more unrest
Egypt is bracing itself for more clashes later today with protests planned in Cairo and in other parts of the country.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updated its advice and warns Brits that demonstrations could occur in other cities, including Alexandria, Suez, Ismailiya and Beni Suef.
“There are reports of dangerous forms of gas being used against protesters as well as live ammunition. Over 35 people have been killed, mainly in Cairo, and over 1,800 injured,†it said.
British nationals have been urged to stay away from Tahrir Square, including the Egyptian Museum and the Downtown area of Cairo including Maspero and the Interior Ministry.
Protesters, who are demanding that Egypt’s military rulers step aside, have clashed with police since Saturday.
The transitional military council, which currently rules Egypt, apologised yesterday for the killing of protesters in Tahrir Square over the past five days.
According to the BBC, soldiers have now set up barricades of cement, metal bars and barbed wire to separate protesters and security forces.
