Egypt is to stage a major tourism conference in Cairo next week to which it has invited international tourism stakeholders.
The one-day event will include an update on developments and enhancements to security following the downing of a Russian passenger jet shortly after it left the resort Sharm el Sheikh, where a bomb is believed to have been smuggled onboard.
UK airlines have since suspended all passenger flights to Sharm and are waiting for the UK government to announce that it is safe for them to resume services.
So far, the Department for Transport has not been convinced security at the Red Sea airport is tight enough.
Egypt’s minister for tourism Hisham Zaazou said the conference next Tuesday, called ‘Tourism in Egypt 2016 – Planning for Growth’, would include an update on security by Control Risks, the newly appointed security expert advisors to the Egyptian Government.
The event will also cover the tourism initiatives planned for 2016, giving an overview of the internatinoal marketing campaign and developments at hotel and resort infrastructure across the country.
There will be a number of high profile speeches during the day, panel sessions involving a number of Ambassadors to Egypt as well as a discussion led by airline and hotel representatives on increasing flights and hotel occupancy, it said.
Zaazou said: "Our Planning for Growth conference is a major opportunity to hear what Egypt is planning for the future. We are confident in Egypt’s ability to develop our important tourism sector in 2016, despite the ongoing global challenges to the sector. We are proud to welcome tourism stakeholders from around the world to Cairo for this important discussion."
