Engine issues force cancellation of hundreds of BA flights
British Airways has been forced to cancel hundreds of long-haul flights due to Rolls-Royce engine issues.
It has been forced to ground several aircraft.
The airline will cut daily flights from London Gatwick to New York JFK for the winter.
BA blames delays on receiving spare parts and replacement Trent 1000 engines that power its Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
The airline has a fleet of 40 787s.
Five of its 787s will be grounded and it says some Boeing 777 planes need routine maintenance.
“We’ve taken this action because we do not believe the issue will be solved quickly. We want to offer our customers the certainty they deserve,” BA said.
BA will cut one flight a day from London Heathrow to Doha and postpone the restart of Kuala Lumpur flights, which were scheduled to resume next month.
Overall, it means the cancellation of hundreds of flights from now until April 2025.
