Engine stalls mid-air on easyJet holiday flight to Spain
An easyJet holiday flight from Liverpool was forced to divert to London after a bird got stuck in the engine, causing it to stall.
The bird strike happened as flight EZY7179 took off for Malaga last Thursday with 179 passengers and six crew onboard.
There was a ‘huge bang’, according to the website AeroInside, and a brief loss of engine power.
The engine was restarted, but the crew diverted to Gatwick, where the aircraft was landed safely.
Passengers had to wait about five hours for a replacement aircraft and take them to Malaga.
An easyJet spokesman said: "easyJet can confirm that the captain of flight EZY7179 from Liverpool to Malaga took the decision to divert to~London Gatwick as a result of a bird strike on take-off.
"The aircraft landed routinely at Gatwick and passengers continued their~journey on a replacement aircraft later the same day.
"The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and~easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all~manufacturers’ guidelines."
