A dog was shot and killed at Seoul’s Incheon Airport after breaking loose and running on to a busy runway.
The dog, owned by a Thai Airways passenger, was being transported to Bangkok when it broke loose.
An airport official told the media security personnel followed standard procedure as the dog was a safety threat for aircraft and passengers.
"It seemed that airline workers didn’t properly close the dog’s cage, allowing it to escape just before being boarded. Our staff first ran after the dog trying to capture it, but they couldn’t. The dog had to be shot to prevent it from causing a serious safety accident," the unnamed official said.
Thai Airways has reportedly offered compensation and apologised to the dog’s owner.
