Etihad shifting Beijing operations to new Daxing International Airport
Gulf carrier Etihad Airways is relocating operations to Beijing’s new ‘golden starfish’ airport.
The airline will move all its flights between Abu Dhabi and Beijing to the new Daxing International Airport from June 1.
It will also transfer the direct Beijing – Nagoya Japan route to the new facility.
It cements the airline’s commitment to China, despite the current situation over coronavirus-fuelled weak demand in the market.
"Whilst the spread of Covid-19 has posed a major challenge for all airlines serving China, with a massive drop in demand on key routes, we remain optimistic that the situation will improve by the summer," said Robin Kamark, Etihad Aviation Group chief commercial officer.
Etihad has been flying to Beijing for more than a decade.
The Beijing-Abu Dhabi service is still operating but the Nagoya service was suspended due to the outbreak.
Beijing Daxing International Airport officially launched operations last year.
