Eurostar punctuality improves
Punctuality on Eurostar reached 92% in the first three months of this year, up from 83% in the same quarter last year.
The Channel Tunnel passenger rail operator said a robust fleet servicing and maintenance programme, plus a strong performance by Network Rail and Eurotunnel, helped it achieve this figure, one of the best ever recorded.
High demand from business travellers has also helped boost sales over the same period (up 7%), with sales of business tickets up 12%.
Eurostar expects a strong performance in the second quarter thanks to the late Easter holiday, the impact of the global release of ‘The Da Vinci Code’ film in May and the FIFA World Cup in Germany in June 2006. Eurostar is a global partner of the movie.
In 2007, with the completion of the UK high-speed line from London St Pancras, Eurostar journey times will be reduced to 2hrs 15mins for London to Paris and to 1hr 20mins for London to Lille.
