Eurostar suspends sale of Bank Holiday tickets to Brussels
Eurostar has stopped selling tickets on its services to and from Brussels on May 31 due to a planned 24-hour national strike in Belgium, starting at 10pm on Bank Holiday Monday.
The train operator said it had suspended sales on its train service to the Belgian capital until it had assessed the impact of the proposed strike.
Workers across the country are due to walk out in a protest over the government’s planned economic reforms. The UK Foreign Office advised travellers to check local news and transport websites before heading out.
A message on the Eurostar website says: "We have been notified that a planned 24-hour national strike in Belgium is due to take place from 22:00 CET on Monday 30 May.
"Services to and from Brussels will be closed to sales while we assess the impact on our services.
"Please check back here regularly for more details.
"We apologise for the inconvenience during this time."
A Eurostar spokesman said the measure had been taken as a ‘precaution’ and Eurostar hopes to operate a normal service next week.
All other services will run as scheduled.
