Eurotunnel lodges appeal in bid to save MyFerryLink
MyFerryLink has lodged an appeal against competition authorities which have told it to close by the end of the year.
Following a long-running battle, the Competition and Market Authority (CMA) ruled last month that the Dover-Calais ferry operation, owned by Eurotunnel, must be stopped within six months.
The CMA said since Eurotunnel purchased the business from SeaFrance in 2012, there have not been enough changes in the marketplace to persuade it that there is enough competition on the route.
But MyFerryLink argues that the CMA does not have jurisdiction to make the ruling and has lodged an appeal before the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
"Consistent with its previous, successful, challenge in December 2013 to the CMS’s original decision of 6 June 2013, MyFerryLink continues to believe that the CMA does not have jurisdiction as a matter of UK law and we are confident of arriving at a similarly positive outcome," it said in a statement.
"MyFerryLink expects that the case will be heard by the tribunal at a hearing in the autumn, with judgment towards the end of the year or early in 2015."
