Expat hotel managers targeted in Bali
Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika wants to limit the number of foreign nationals working in the island’s hotel industry in order to increase employment opportunities for Indonesian college graduates.
According to the governor, almost 98 percent of the general manager positions in starred hotels in Bali are filled by expatriates.
The governor said he was disappointed by this situation on an island where there are numerous hotel and tourism schools.
However, he concedes that the competitive quality of local graduates is poor.
The governor said that a change needed to be made to improve the quality of local hotel school graduates by addressing students’ individual character and their work habits.
