To PDA or Not to PDA? That is the Convergent Question Back
The way I see it, valuable life lessons lie dormant in every object (living, dead or digital), and all it takes to discover them is a curious mind and an open heart…
…Such insights I attribute to my own good fortune of having been raised on wheatgrass and wisdom farmed by a particularly enlightened Hare Krishna nanny. But I like to share these lessons, so here’s a story about a small, hand-held device called a PDA phone (the Asus P535 to be precise) that may or may not be the key to the universe. Probably not, but keep reading.
First, the PDA phone: what’s it all about? It’s a phone, first of all, with wireless capabilities, which means you can access your email and surf the internet when you’re in what’s called a ‘hot spot’, just like you can do with most laptops these days. In fact, the PDA phone looks like a mini-version of a PC when you start it, which is because it runs with Microsoft Mobile. Mac-user that I am, I’ve tried to adjust to these strange settings, and it’s difficult. Transcendental meditation is helping, though.
There is also a GPS system; that means you can find out where in the world you are – physically, that is – not sure about spiritually! If you like taking photos of beautiful things and emailing them to beautiful people, you will appreciate all the camera (as well as video) functions: b&w, sepia and colour settings, plus a rapid-fire point-and-shoot capability for taking multiple action shots in a matter of seconds. Far out.
There is another function called WorldCard, which lets you scan business cards. But when I tried (multiple times) with my Reiki teacher’s business card, I couldn’t get it to work. Either the photo function is hard to work – or maybe the energy levels of her card were just too intense for the device, I don’t know.
Realising that it is only through collective knowledge that we can further understand the universe, I consulted Technology Guru Callum Laing, CEO of MobyElite, for some deeper advice as to the merit of this device.
“It’s too bulky,” he scoffed. But looks aren’t everything, I pointed out.
