Extra airlift to Jamaica for winter season

Wednesday, 23 September 20153 min read
Jamaica will have a substantial increase in airlift from the US market this winter, says director of tourism Paul Pennicook.
Airline seats to the island will increase by 60,000 with 50,000 coming from US cities.
"Come December 18, American Airlines introduces non-stop service from Los Angeles into Montego Bay, from November 1, Southwest Airlines will have a daily service from Houston to Montego Bay; and in December, Frontier Airlines comes to Montego Bay four days a week from Philadelphia," Pennicook said.
"There are others like Delta Air Lines that will be increasing flights," he added.
Additional flights are expected from Gothenburg, Sweden and Oslo, Norway this winter, and increased flights from Dublin before next summer.
During the summer there was a squeeze on room supply due to many resorts undergoing refurbishment, but will be back to normal before the upcoming winter season begins, said tourism minister Dr Wykeham McNeill.
"This particular issue will disappear as these properties, with additional and refurbished rooms, will be ready for this winter season. Additionally, some 1,600 rooms are under construction. This means that our accommodations are now on the cutting edge and can meet the demands of a new and sophisticated market," the minister said.
