FAA downgrades Mexico air safety rating
Two US-Mexico cross-border airline partnerships are at risk in the short-term after the FAA downgraded Mexico’s aviation-safety ranking.
Mexican carriers Aeromexico and Volaris can continue operating current services but are not able to add any new ones while it has a ‘Category 2’ safety rating.
That could mean a postponement of codesharing pacts between Aeromexico and Delta Air Lines and Volaris and Frontier Airlines.
The downgrade stems from an audit that took place in October 2020 through February 2021.
