A site containing fake statues was destroyed by local officials in the Lintong district of Xi’an, close to where the real thing is located.
Unlicensed guides and taxi drivers had been luring tourists to the fake site and its existence came to light after a complaint was made to local officials, Xinhua news agency reported.
The real Terracotta Army dates back more than 2,000 years with thousands of statues Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s mausoleum, however the bogus attraction contained only about 40.
