Fall happenings in New Orleans

In New Orleans, the fall means food, film festivals and Halloween frights.

There is a full program of top events and festivals, great seasonal food to sample and thrilling family friendly experiences.

With Halloween and Thanksgiving just weeks away there is no let up to the fun right up to the festive season.

Check out some of the top autumn picks in and around New Orleans.

Hauntings at Halloween

You’re in the right place. This is the most haunted city in the United States. New Orleans has been the backdrop for occult-themed films and television shows, from True Blood and Interview with a Vampire to American Horror Story Coven. Curious travellers fascinated with the occult can explore and discover the origins of Voodoo. There are many gjost and cemetery tours, voodoo shopping, and vampire lore. New Orleans has it all for the spookiest Halloween imaginable.

Fall food festivals

New Orleans cuisine is legendary and there is no better way to experience it than the Fall Food Festivals being held in September. They celebrate the local delicacies of the state starting from the Beignet Festival on 23 September at New Orleans City Park. This festival pays homage to the decadent pastry the state is known for. In addition to the dozens of different beignet dishes, the fest promises to be a family-friendly fun day with live, local music performances, a Kid’s Village, artist market, and beer garden. The Fried Chicken Festival takes place at the end of September.

Film Festivals

A testament to the growth of “Hollywood South,” the New Orleans Film Festival has been going strong since 1989. The 34th annual, Oscar-qualifying New Orleans Film Festival returns November 2-7, 2023 in venues across the city. It features in-person events, parties and panels. The festival annually brings together 150+ films and hosts 100+ filmmakers to celebrate works of emerging and established filmmakers from New Orleans, Louisiana, the South, and beyond.
