Falls bring fresh hope to slopes
Snow has begun falling in NSW resorts, spurring hope of a strong finish to the ski season.
All four resort areas of Perisher Blue Ski Resort received snow yesterday and an approaching storm front was expected to bring snowfalls to around 1400m today.
Forecaster Pete Taylor, who runs the website snowatch.com.au, has predicted the storm system could bring between 29cm and 63cm of new snow to the slopes by Sunday.
Perisher Blue spokesperson Christie Dowling said resorts are likely to enjoy good spring conditions right through to the expected season end date of October 2.
John Schryver CEO of Falls Creek Ski Lifts is ecstatic. Schryver said, “Mother Nature has saved the best for last. Whilst the capital cities are feeling the brunt of the current southerlies and the cold change, we¹re getting significant snowfalls.”
“A low-pressure system has produced mid-winter weather for the alpine resorts and after some snowfalls we are looking strong.”
“This weekend, and next week, could be some of the best snow conditions of the season with up to 30cm of snow forecast to fall between today and next Monday.”
“The new snow is very timely for our annual influx of ‘White Space’ guests who enjoy up to 50% off all-inclusive packages from now until we close the ski lifts in early October.”
“There’s no football finals in Melbourne (or the local region) after this weekend so there¹s ample opportunity to bring the children to Falls Creek and enjoy our value-for-money ŒWhite Space¹ packages”.
“As they say it’s better late than never (the snowfalls). The school holidays are now looking good and it looks like we’ll go through to the official closing date the 1st of October”.
