FCO downgrades Middle East advice

UK: Government office still warns of high risk to British travellers

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has amended its advice for several countries in the Middle East.

As reported by News From Abroad, the FCO had previously advised against all travel to Jordan, Israel and Kuwait, and against non-essential travel to Qatar, Bahrain, Syria and Saudi Arabia. While the Government has now cancelled its advice not to travel to these countries, it still continues to warn of a high risk to UK nationals.

The advice for Yemen, Gaza and the West Bank, however, still remains against all travel. Industry analysts are not expecting a rush of bookings for Middle East countries, however; visitor numbers for Egypt have fallen by some 50 per cent this year – despite the fact that the FCO did not advise against travel to the country.
