British tourists have been urged to follow regulations in Nepal’s national parks following a tiger attack at the weekend.
A Dutch tourist and his local guide were attacked while hiking in Bardia National Park in southwestern Nepal.
The tourist, 33-year-old Gerard Van Laar from Dedemsvaart, survived by climbing a tree.
His guide was slightly injured as he ran away to draw the attention of the tiger.
On Thursday, the FCO updated its advice in light of the incident, telling visitors: "Always observe park regulations and follow your guide’s instructions."
A popular tourist spot, Bardia is a protected national forest and is home to about 70 tigers. Attacks are rare.
