Fines outlined for flouting new mask rules
People ignoring newly reintroduced mask rules face a £200 fine. It can rise progressively to £6,400 for repeat offenders.
Effective today, shoppers and users of public transport must don a face covering. The rule change comes in to protect against the new Omicron variant.
However, it is not required at hospitality businesses, such as pubs, restaurants and event venues. It brings England in line with the other home nations.
As well as public transport face coverings are required in shops ,indoor malls, banks and post offices.
