Finnair trials IATA Travel Pass on UK flights
Finnair has begun trials of IATA Travel Pass on its London Heathrow to Helsinki route.
The trial lasts until 11 August 2021 on flights in both directions.
IATA Travel Pass is a smartphone-based initiative which enables airline customers to upload and manage their tests and proof of Covid-19 certificate status in a single app, upon departure and arrival.
The app updates customers with the latest information on various travel requirements for any pending journeys.
IATA Travel Pass checks a customer’s certification-status with the requirements of their destination and lets them know whether they are ‘OK to travel’, in line with the latest test and vaccination rules for the destination.
Ole Orvér, Finnair Chief Commercial Officer, said: "The app is currently on trial in both directions from our hub in Helsinki to London and we look forward to hearing our customers’ thoughts on the new solution to decide our next steps with it."
"We are also exploring other digital solutions to ease travelling and Covid related travel document management. The industry is in need for current protocols to be replaced with more effective, digital solutions to simplify coronavirus travel procedures."
During the trial, the Finnish carrier will collect feedback from customers and crew to help the app’s future development for the airline and customers alike.
