Fiona Jeffery OBE honoured for contribution to peace in tourism
Fiona Jeffery OBE, founder of the Just a Drop Foundation, and David Scowsill, past president and CEO of the WTTC, will be honoured for their contribution to peace through tourism at next week’s World Travel Market.
They are two of six people chosen by the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism as Global Ambassadors of Peace Through Tourism.
They will be presented with with their awards on Monday at Platinum Suites 3 & 4 at Excel London, from 2.45pm to 4.00pm. All WTM delegates are invited to attend.
The others due to be honoured are HRH Princess Dana Firas of Jordan, chairperson of the Petra National Trust & UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Anita Mendiratta, managing director of CACHET Consulting, Tourism, author and thought leader, Costas Christ, CEO of Beyond Green Travel and senior advisor for sustainable tourism, National Geographic, and Geoffrey Lipman, director Green Growth & Travelism Institute and co-founder of the SunX Foundation.
Supported by Incredible India and the UNWTO, the awards are sponsored by Cox & Kings.
Dr. Taleb Rifai, UNWTO secretary general, is the chief guest and keynote speaker.
The event will be hosted by Anita Mendiratta, founder and president CACHET Consulting.
Jeffery said: "I’m genuinely honoured to be considered a Global Ambassador of Peace through Tourism, but I think it simply reflects the power of tourism and the paths we walk and how each of us can make a contribution to our industry that perhaps creates a lasting impact and if nothing else hopefully influences how we progress as an industry in the future."
