First community transmissions of Omicron identified in Japan
Japan reported its first community transmissions of the Omicron variant. Three family members in Osaka prefecture were infected and have no history of travel overseas.
New cases of the variant nearly doubled to 160 on Wednesday. The first Omicron case was detected in Japan three weeks ago. The three family members were all admitted to the hospital after displaying mild symptoms.
"It’s possible there are other cases of community transmissions as well," Osaka Govenor.Hirofumi Yoshimura said.
