First coronavirus infection linked to Bali

A Chinese tourist who visited the Indonesian island of Bali tested positive for coronavirus, and now authorities are scrambling to track his travel history on the island.

The infection was only diagnosed shortly after returning to China in early February.

The man is a resident of Wuhan.

Bali Health Agency chief Ketut Suarjaya said there is ‘a small possibility’ he had the virus before arriving in Bali.

"We will trace all the places he had visited. Of course, we will raise our alert."

"The incubation period of the coronavirus is 14 days. We don’t know yet where exactly he was infected. We don’t know yet whether he was infected with the coronavirus before he went to Bali."

Garuda Indonesia said it has grounded the plane that took the man from Bali back to China for additional disinfection.

So far, there have been 30 people feeling unwell tested for the covid-19 virus but so far all tests returned negative.

There are currently two more patients in isolation in a Bali hospital awaiting test results.

Many experts are getting increasingly sceptical about Indonesia’s claim of no positive virus cases.

Due to the number of Chinese tourists who entered the country before flights were suspended, and anecdotal reports of lax health monitoring at airports, experts believe the country should have reported at least some cases by now.
