Colorado’s Arapahoe Basin has become the first resort in North America to open this ski season.
Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Area began making snow at the end of September and it has snowed most days since then.
Both resorts are perched on top of the Continental Divide, giving them higher elevations, earlier frosts and colder temperatures. This year they were also helped by improved snowmaking equipment.
The race to host Opening Day is one of the highlights of the ski season, a title often held by Colorado’s Arapahoe Basin or Loveland.
