At least five people were taken to hospital injured after a small explosion in the check-in area of Shanghai’s Pudong Airport at the weekend.
The blast is thought to have come from ‘self-made explosive materials’ officials said.
Xinhua news agency said most injuries were minor and the incident caused limited disruption at the airport with flight operations continuing normally.
It is thought the bomb may have been made from a firecracker.
The Wall Street Journal reports a man at the check-in area threw the device and then took out a knife and cut his own throat.
He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
