Flash flood kills British couple on the Costa Blanca
A British couple have died after being swept away in a flash flood on the Costa Blanca.
Kenneth and Mary Hall, aged 72 and 70, from Merseyside, were at a street market in the coastal town of Finestrat when they were hit by a wall of water.
It is believed the couple were on holiday in Benidorm.
According to the BBC, they were sitting outside a stall at the market when they were hit by waters up to a metre high.
The flash flood was caused by heavy rain inland which rushed downhill into a dip where the market was being held.
Witnesses said the water was so powerful it knocked over a wall and wrecked cars and stalls.
Authorities in Finestrat have declared two days of official mourning for the couple.
