Flash mob takes to Kazakh streets against resort
Almaty citizens want to prevent construction at the National Park
Last Sunday in the Kok Zhaylau area near Almaty, citizens of the southern capital of Kazakhstan held several flash mobs to stop the construction of a ski resort on the territory of the National Park.
At the bottom of the foundation pit which was dug out on the territory of Kok-Zhaylau for the construction of power station, about a hundred activists of the civil movement "Protect Kok Zhaylau!" and ordinary citizens have composed the word STOP – first from the white cloths, and then with their own bodies.
Invited journalists also witnessed another flash mob: the protesters put on medical masks. This symbolized that the authorities who promote the resort project are depriving the people of their voice in favor of the national park – in fact the resort advertised as a benefit for the people, is actually a costly project for the entertainment of the rich to be built on the people’s money on the land, the owner of which is the people of Kazakhstan.
Members of the flash mob took off the masks with the slogan "Defend Kok Zhaylau for posterity!" and threw them on the bottom of the foundation pit.
After that, a number of activists encouraged the audience to believe in themselves, because it is the people who should decide the fate of projects of national importance.
This follows on the heels of another demonstration relating to the resort, in Germany – Kazakh activists travelled six and half thousand kilometres to draw attention to the devastation being perpetrated in the unique nature of the Almaty Mountains.
Hundreds of nibbled apples symbolize the disdain being shown to the citizens of Kazakhstan, as well as how their right to participate in the decision-making is being neglected. See more HERE
