Flights disrupted by cow at Ahmedabad Airport

Monday, 15 January 20183 min read

Operations at Ahmedabad Airport were briefly disrupted after a cow went walkabout near the runway.

The bovine intruder was spotted from the air by pilots of an inbound Etihad Airways jet.

The Etihad flight and a cargo jet had to be diverted to Mumbai.

Other flights were also delayed.

"It was a stray cow that entered from the cargo terminal side. The cow was quite mad, and running around the operational area. I have asked the airport director to inquire into it and submit a report," Airport Authority of India chairman Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra said.

It took about 90 minutes for airport security to finally chase the cow out of the airport.

Airport director Manoj Gangal confirmed an inquiry is underway.

In 2016 a flight was aborted at the last minute at Ahmedabad Airport when a group of monkeys were spotted on the tarmac.

Animal incursions are a regular occurrence at India’s airports, which have included wild boar, hyenas, dogs and even rabbits.
