Florida declares state of emergency ahead of hurricane arrival
Florida has declared a state of emergency as it prepares for the arrival of Hurricane Dorian on Monday’s Labor Day holiday.
Forecasters say the storm will move across the Bahamas later this week and warned of heavy rainfall that could cause ‘life-threatening’ flash floods.
They say the storm is likely to strengthen before making landfall on Monday on the US Southeast coast on Monday.
Experts say it could land anywhere between South Florida and South Carolina.
The US National Hurricane Center predicts Dorian reaching Category 3 Hurricane strength before weakening.
The UK Foreign Office is warning holidaymakers in the area to monitor the progress of approaching storms and follow instructions issued by the local authorities, including any evacuation orders.
