Tourism infrastructure in the Florida Keys is almost back to full strength with 86% of all accommodations now back online.
With new and fully refurbished properties, the Keys are to add almost 1,500 rooms to lodging inventory and the first luxury-inclusive, adults-only resort, Bungalows Key Largo, opens in the fall.
Also in Key Largo, the new 200-room Baker’s Cay Resort, a Curio Collection by Hilton is slated to open in September.
In Key West and nearby Stock Island, 95% of all properties have now reopened following Hurricane Irma, 86% are open in Key Largo, and 77% in Marathon.
That leaves just two major properties to reopen in Key West.
To support the regeneration, American Airlines begins new summer nonstop service from June 9 between Key West and Dallas-Fort Worth, and from October 4, United Airlines expands its Key West service from Newark to year-round on 70-seat E170 aircraft.
United will also operate seasonally on Saturdays and Sundays to Key West from Chicago O’Hare from June 2 through mid-December.
The Tourist Development Council also updated that all 10 Keys state parks are open for day use while restoration works continue and most Keys campgrounds are now open for tent camping.
