For $1 million per seat, you can go to the moon
For those travelers who have been everywhere, there’s a new mountain to climb: a trip to the far side of the moon.
The Virginia-based Space Adventures says it is offering that for the first time.
The trip will use the Soyuz spacecraft and be piloted by a Russian cosmonaut. It could leave as early as 2008.
Two commercial seats are available for $1 million each.
The moon flight might be likened to a cruise in its duration of anywhere from nine to 21 days.
“We have identified over 1,000 people around the world who have the financial ability to afford a trip to the moon,” said Eric Anderson, president and CEO of Space Adventures.
Ticket-buyers will be the first private explorers to the moon, he said.
Space Adventures claims to be the only company to have successfully launched space explorers to the International Space Station.
