Indonesia: Intelligence suggests increased risk of attacks on visitors

The Foreign Office has once more updated its advice for Indonesia, warning travellers from the UK not to visit the country because of an increased risk of terrorist attacks.

The Government office has stated that concern over Indonesia has heightened since the start of the war – particularly to the port city of Surabaya on the island of Java. It says there is an increased risk of attacks on British holidaymakers because certain terror groups are angry about Britain’s involvement in the war on Iraq.

The FCO website, at www.fco.gov.uk/travel, states: “The risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks in public places, including tourist sites, will be especially high during military action in Iraq. You should be vigilant, take sensible precautions, be aware of local sensibilities, monitor the media and check our travel advice for the country you live in or plan to visit.”

The FCO has also updated its advice for Sudan. Thailand, Italy, Cambodia, Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey in the last 24 hours.
