Former Fathom ship Adonia to join Azamara fleet

Royal Caribbean has acquired Adonia from P&O Cruises and, after a facelift, will sail it as a sister ship to Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest.

The ship, which will be renamed Azamara Pursuit, is due to leave P&O Cruises in March.

Her last sailing with P&O will leave Barbados on February 23.

Guests booked on Adonia cruises after that time are now being contacted.

The 710-passenger ship rejoined the P&O Cruises fleet this year after a short stint with sister brand Fathom to operate social impact sailings from Miami to Cuba. She originally joined the P&O fleet in 2011.

P&O Cruises SVP Paul Ludlow said: "During her time with us Adonia has captured the hearts of many thousands of P&O Cruises guests. She has ventured into new ports of call around the globe and has negotiated Icelandic Fjords, European rivers and Caribbean coves. We will ensure that these discovery itineraries are continued on other ships in the fleet.

"With almost six months until Adonia leaves the fleet, we will ensure that each of the cruises in her final season with us are extra special and celebratory."

Larry Pimentel, president and CEO of Azamara Club Cruises, said: "Our loyal guests and travel partners have asked for this expansion for a long time; we are very pleased to deliver this to them."

Azamara said the ship’s decor will be updated to match the brand’s upmarket position.

It said information about deployment and itineraries for Azamara Pursuit will be announced in October.
