The squeeze on fuel supplies has caused the first major disruption to an Air India flight.
A Dubai-bound Air India flight from Kochi was delayed by more than four hours due to the ongoing fuel supply issue.
The delayed Dreamliner flight delayed nearly 300 passengers as oil companies cut off the supply of fuel to Air India due to unpaid dues.
In fact it only took off at all after India’s civil aviation minister urgently discussed the matter with the minister of petroleum and natural gas, Dharmendra Pradhan.
Last week oil companies refused to continue supplying the national carrier at airports including Visakhapatnam, Mohali, Ranchi, Pune and Patna.
Air India said at the time: "In the absence of equity support Air India cannot handle the huge debt service liabilities."
"Our financial performance this fiscal, however, is very good and we are moving towards a healthy operating profit. The airline despite its legacy issues is performing very well."
Further talks took place on Monday to bring the dispute to an end although no difinite resolution was reasched.
