Garuda Indonesia names new chief
Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has appointed Irfan Setiaputra as new president director.
Irfan becomes the fourth chief executive in just five years.
He replaces I Gusti Ngurah Askhara Danadiputra who left under a cloud after being fired for smuggling goods including a Harley Davidson motorcycle on a new Garuda jet.
Irfan joins Garuda from the telecommunications industry where he held senior positions at Sigfox Indonesia and PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia.
Dony Oskaria was named as his deputy as vice president director.
Along with Irfan’s appointment, state owned enterprises minister Erick Thohir signalled a boardroom shakeup with a number of new faces.
This will return some credibility to the airline and make a clean break from recent scandals.
"I hope Irfan can carry out his mandates, follow the principles of good corporate governance and make Garuda even better," Thohir said.
Additionally, human rights activist Yenny Wahid was appointed as an independent commissioner.
