Garuda suing passenger over social media post

Indonesian flag carrier Garuda has asked passengers not to be snap-happy in the cabin.

It has asked passengers not to take photos and video footage inside the plane after a viral post showed business class passengers being given hand scribbled menus.

The airline claims the directive is not related to that issue, as it attempts to take legal action against a passenger.

"Passengers are still allowed to take pictures for personal reasons such as selfies, as long as it doesn’t disturb or cause inconvenience to others," Garuda corporate secretary Ikhsan Rosan said.

It came a day after a vlogger posted images of the hand written menu online during a Sydney-Denpasar flight.

Rius Vernandes said in the post it was handed to him as the ‘menu is still being printed’ a flight attendant said.

However, Garuda says it was only for cabin crew use and not for passengers.

"We would like to convey that this wasn’t a menu card for passengers, but a personal note for flight attendants that wasn’t supposed to be published," the airline said.

Garuda initially said it would punish any passengers taking photos or videos in the cabin but later backed down on this and is now ‘advising’ fliers not to do this.

However, in a later twist to the story, Vernandes posted again, saying he has been issued with a summons claiming he ‘defamed’ the airline.
