A planned strike at Gatwick Airport by contracted baggage screeners has been suspended.
The walkout scheduled for 22 to 26 August has been called off after employer ICTS made a last ditch improved pay offer.
The workers will be balloted on the new pay deal, union Unite said.
A second round of strike action from 29 August to 2 September could still go ahead if they reject the new offer.
The union says the workers earn ‘just above minimum wage’ and deserve a decent pay rise.
“ICTS has more than enough money to offer these workers a fair pay rise. Not doing so is just corporate greed,” Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said.
Gatwick Airport said it was ‘pleased’ a new offer will avoid the initial round of industrial action, even though it denied it would have caused major disruption.
