GBTA says goodbye to Shanghai

Thursday, 11 Apr, 2003 0

The Guild of Business Travel Agents has decided not to hold its conference in Shanghai next month as planned.

The event now looks set to take place in Madrid. The GBTA decision follows the Foreign Office advice not to travel to the Guang-dong area of China – 500 miles from Shanghai – due to the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

GBTA chief executive Philip Carlisle told TravelMole: “The decision was not a difficult one to make. We have decided to postpone the event in China for a year, rather than to cancel it.”

The event, which takes place from May 9-11, has the theme ‘Making Sense of Market Chaos.’
