GDS report transaction volumes grow
Amadeus and Worldspan reported this week increased transaction volumes during the second quarter, thanks to strong online business bookings and increased overseas bookings.
Sabre Holdings and Galileo/Cendant had recently reported similar increased transaction volumes.
While Amadeus’ overall booking volume increased 9 percent, its online transaction growth increased an impressive 42 percent in the second quarter, increasing its global share of travel agency airline bookings to just over 29 percent. It’s overall second-quarter net income rose 42 percent to $98.3 million.
Sabre Holdings reported end of July revenue growth of 5.3 percent for Sabre Travel Network, representing an overall global transaction increase of 6 percent, with online transaction growing at 14 percent. It saw a 41 percent increase in hotel room night bookings.
Cendant’s Galileo GDS revenue for the second quarter increased 3 percent on 6 percent increased GDS segment volume. Its online transaction volume grew 30 percent.
Worldspan’s global transactions grew only 1 percent. While its overall revenues decreased, its operating profits increased 14 percent, resulting from lower overall costs. Online agency volumes grew 8 percent.
