German leisure airline Condor has announced seasonal twice weekly flights to the Big Easy from next year.
The Frankfurt-New Orleans route takes off from May 3, on 259-seater Boeing 767 aircraft.
Condor spokesman Johannes Winter said fares will start at $399 in economy and reservations are now live.
"This is the first New Orleans transatlantic flight in decades. We have to the hard work of filling up the planes that go back and forth. I feel really great about it. I feel confident we’re going to be able to do fine," said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
The service will initially run from May through October 2017.
"We’re not just connecting New Orleans to Germany, we’re connecting New Orleans to the world. From Frankfurt we offer 120 or more seamless connections all over Europe and around the world," said Condor regional vice president Titus Johnson.
"It’s a city and region with very strong European culture, particularly French and Spanish," Johnson said.
Condor also announced nonstop seasonal flights to San Diego which will operate three times a week from May through October next year.
The carrier also starts new routes next year to Seattle and Las Vegas twice a week, and one weekly flight to Holguin in Cuba.
