Global Travel hopes to honour bookings of Nantwich Travel
The Global Travel Group has now agreed to honour the bookings of customers who bought holidays from one of its agents, which has mysteriously closed down, but says each case will be dealt with individually.
The agency group said it was continuing to help police with its enquiries about Nantwich Travel, which closed last week with no notice and with no contact to customers.
Initially Global had refused to say whether the bookings would be honoured but now it has confirmed it is ‘working hard internally to ensure that we honour all customer bookings with a legitimate proof of payment’.
In an updated statement, it said: "Under our ATOL license we ensure that all bookings are fully bonded and protected and we are liaising with Nantwich Travel customers and our trade partners to resolve each individual query.
"All customers concerned about a booking that they have made with Nantwich Travel are advised to call our dedicated support team on 01244 521202 for assistance."
Police are investigating the Cheshire travel agent over allegations customers have been swindled out of thousands of pounds.
Local newspaper the Crewe Chronicle said it had spoken to several customers who claim they had booked holidays with the travel agent but had received no confirmation or flight tickets.
One group claimed to have handed over £18,000 in cash.
Cheshire Police said it had received calls from several customers and it was investigating whether there had been any criminal offence.
The travel agency had resigned its ABTA membership two years ago and has been a member of the Global Travel Group since April this year.
Before that it was a member of The Travel Network Group.
