Queensland’s Gold Coast, Tasmania and Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula are proving to be the three most popular destinations for Golf ‘Play n Stay’ group holidays in Australia.
Go Golfing managing director Peter McCarthy says over the past four years the company’s travel arm has witnessed huge growth in bookings for group tours.
McCarthy said the Gold Coast – with more than 30 courses – ranks as the number one destination for the Play-n-Stay holidays.
"Most commonly staying in 4-4.5 star apartments in Broadbeach, players tend to stay on the Gold Coast for an average of six nights," McCarthy said.
Go Golfing says more than 10,000 golfers annually book a domestic or international golf holiday or short break with Go Golfing.
"With the acquisition of Go Golfing Travel in 2010 comes a full service agency with a focus on golf holidays, cruising and hot leisure destinations," McCarthy added.
Meanwhile, Australia’s largest amateur golfing competition has announced it will have the top ranked Links Hope Island and The Palms at Sanctuary Cove as host courses for the first time.
Go Golfing is the organiser of the 2012 Mitsubishi World Masters Golf Championship, which tees off on October and will bring with it more than 1,000 players and visitors from around Australia and overseas.
Men and women over the age of 35 battle it out across four different age groups, and will be able to play in a variety of compulsory and non-compulsory events over seven days including rounds at The Glades and Robina Woods.
