Plans for Prestwick Airport, which was bought by the Scottish government last year for just £1, are due to be unveiled later today.
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is to appear before Holyrood’s infrastructure committee to give details of the government’s long-term vision for its future.
Prestwick, which is just 30 minutes from Glasgow, sustains around 3,200 jobs and it is estimated to contribute £60 million to the Scottish economy, but falling passenger numbers and a drop in freight operations cast doubts over its survival until it was bought by the government.
However, privately-owned Glasgow and Edinburgh airports are unhappy at being forced to compete with a rival that is being propped up with public funds.
