Southeast Asia’s largest ride hailing company wants to grab a piece of the bike sharing market.
Grab is launching a bike and e-scooter sharing app called GrabCycle in Singapore.
A pilot scheme begins in Sentosa before an expected roll out across the rest of Singapore.
GrabCycle uses the shared bikes from partners oBike, GBikes, Anywheel and PopScoot, and can be paid for using the GrabPay e-wallet.
"GrabCycle supplements the public transport network and is in line with the government’s commitment to build a greener and more liveable city," said Reuben Lai, head of GrabVentures.
"With GrabCycle we move one step closer towards our vision of being a multi-modal platform with transport options to suit every need," he added.
If all goes well it could be expanded across the ASEAN region where in major cities like Bangkok, Manila and Jakarta, chronic congestion and pollution is a way of life.
"Our focus is to test it out to make sure we get it right here and if consumers love it, then there’s nothing stopping us from continuing to expand throughout Southeast Asia," Lai added.
While there are numerous bike sharing services across the region GrabCycle will become the first bike sharing platform offering a one-stop choice of service providers.
