Dr Zahi Hawass is the world’s most famous face of Egyptology. He is the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt and Director of Excavations in Giza, site of the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid.
He appears in practically every documentary made on ancient Egypt and his passion and knowledge of a Pharonic Egypt is compelling. With his trademark Akubra hat he could be easily be mistaken for an Egyptian Indiana Jones or a Nile Crocodile Dundee.
On September 14, 2009 Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre is operating a one off tour, Treasures of Ancient Egypt in which a small group of 25 people will meet with Dr Hawass, listen to him relate some of his discoveries and also go behind the scenes of some of Egypt’s most famous archaeological sites.
Visit the workers Village of the Great Pyramid, normally off limits for tourists and visit the Bent Pyramid and the Dahshur Red Pyramid, which don’t usually appear in the average Egypt tour itinerary.
